What we are after

Make Crete a sustainable, high-quality destination for winter activities and promote a different view and narrative on how ski in general and mountain activities should be approached tomorrow, starting today! We want to speak loud about a more colorful, joyful, human, and sustainable approach of interacting and engaging with our mountains and the environment.
(also enjoy mountains ourselves!)

What we intend to do

Organize activities and high-level sporting events in the outdoors with the engagement of local communities, aiming at promoting and highlighting the sports and the activities performed in nature, and particularly those conducted in mountainous environments.

Design and implement local development projects aimed at highlighting Greece’s natural environment and the livelihood and recreation opportunities it can offer, thus contributing to the sustainable development of the mountains and the mountain societies of Crete and Greece.

Operate as Think Tank for winter sports, sustainable mountain development, and destination management, providing advisory work aimed at supporting the achievement of the above key objectives, internationally, nationally, and locally.

What if we succeed?

We are going to be part of the solution, not part of the problem anymore, and we will have helped to cover some distance towards a more inclusive, sustainable, and bright future!

Pierra Creta

A few words and the idea behind it…

Our effort is to enjoy skimo as much as we can, but at the same time, along with friends from all over Greece, to promote ski mountaineering in our country and inspire more people to engage with it. The idea to set up such an event on the Cretan mountains came one day with beers at hand and we succeeded it for first time in 2014.

Pierra Creta is a bi-annual ski mountaineering event held in the mountains of Crete. and it pursuits to make ski mountaineering, known to people of Crete and to show to other Greeks, already involved, and people abroad that Crete is a place for it!

Local communities & Youth engagement

We work since 2015 towards introducing ski mountaineering to local communities and especially kids. We engage them in the whole spectrum of our activities in order to change their perspective about what their mountain environment is and that it can be a solution instead of a problem in making a living without sacrificing their authenticity, their sense of who they are, and their fundamental way of life.
